2005 South Underclass Showcase
Pearce is a 6-7, 180 lb junior right handed pitcher from Texas with an extra long and lean frame. He has size 17 feet, which just adds to the long and lean effect. Pearce has a balanced leg raise start to his delivery but falls off severely to the first base side, pulling his head off the plate and raising his release point to an unnatural high 3/4's. Get Pearce directional to the plate and balance and he's throwing from a low and extended 3/4's with very good movement on his fastball. Pearce's fastball was 84-86 mph and one can only wonder what it could get to with some mechanical adjustments. Pearce's best secondary pitch was a mid 70's change up. His 69 mph curveball tended to be loose because of his long arm action and pitching mechanics and he's probably better off suited for slider in the future. Peace has a ton of natural talent on the mound and has a high ceiling if he can make adjustments as he gains strength. He is a good student in the classroom. Named to the Top Prospect Game.
