Andrew Jones is a 2007 C/MIF with a 5'9'', 188 lb. frame from Alpharetta GA, who attends Milton HS. He has a short frame with very good present strength. Jones ran the 60 in 7.59 but he's a quick and agile athlete who is light on his feet. His best time down to first base was 4.56 and he showed very good quickness out in front of home plate defensively. Jones has the skills to play both in the infield and at his primary position of catcher. He caught a couple of high velocity pitchers during the games and handled them easily. His arm strength is very good at 75C/82IF and he had a best pop time of 1.98. Jones moves well as an infielder and actually throws better when he lowers and lengthens his arm angle from the standard catcher's release. Offensively, Jones hits from a very clososed stance with good balance to the ball and a short, quick swing. He squared up on the ball consistently and made solid up the middle line drive contact. His swing mechanics were very consistent and make good use of his quick hands. Jones hits within himself and takes advantage of his physical tools. He has a nice set of skills for the right college program. Jones is also an excellent student.
