Jose Hernandez -- Hernandez is a 6-2 right hander with good projectable body strength. He throws from an overhand release point and does a good job of maximizing his leverage to the plate. Right now he is a bit too mechanical and could loosen up some. His arm is pretty quick, though. Hernandez threw his fastball 78-81 mph for 3 innings with downward plane to it. He started getting a feel for his low 60’s curveball as he threw more pitches but that’s a tough arm angle to throw an effective 2 plane breaking ball from. As 2006 prospect with a nice body and some strength, we’d expect Hernandez to throw a lot harder in the future with some mechanical adjustments. He shows good athletic ability, he can run and swing the bat. He could easily become a highest level pitching prospect. Jose is a good student.
