2005 South Top Prospect Showcase
Beard is a 6-1, 175 lb third baseman from Texas with some good present strength. Beard is a 7.24 runner who threw 78 mph during infield drills. He had good defensive actions side to side and his hands fielded the ball cleanly. Beard tended to flip the ball quickly to first base during drills, which showed his quick release but not his true arm strength. He made some very strong throws during the games where he aired it out across the diamond. At the plate, Beard has a sweeping line drive swing that shows some of his strength. He tends to raise up through the ball during his swing which changes his eye level and swing plane. He made solid line drive contact during batting practice and showed gap to gap power. Better use of his hands in controlling the bat head will help him in games. Beard is a solid overall player who should keep improving with maturity. He's a solid student as well.
