2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Jones is a 5-11 junior third baseman from Georgia with a medium framed body that has very good strength through the shoulders. Jones hits out of a very wide, crouched stance with a Sheffield-type bat waggle to key his swing. Jones has a good level cut and his above average strength gives him the chance to hit with some power in the future. His best contact in batting practice and in games was to right field. Jones best tool on defense was his raw arm strength. Jones stepped into an emergency situation on the mound and pitched 5 shutout innings to really help out a pitching short team. He was 76-78 mph with his fastball from a high ¾’s release point and had a 66 mph curveball that was pretty sharp at times. Jones had nice, easy mechanics that enabled him to throw consistent strikes. Jones is the type of player who likes to play and compete and shows it on the field. He is a good student.
