2003 South Top Prospect Showcase
Hicks is a shortstop that played much better than his tools appeared from looking at the numbers alone. For a 7.29 runner, Hicks can move in the field and on the bases. He is an aggressive baserunner and he plays hard-nosed baseball the way it was meant to be played. He has a certain grace and ease at which he performs many aspects of his game. In the field his glove was soft, his arm was loose and he showed good range. At the plate his bat did not show Big League bat-speed but he was well balanced and swung within himself getting the ball deep in the outfield. His all around game showed us that he is a good prospect that will be recruited highly because he can hit and make all the plays. He has a good proportionate body that still projects well and at 5 foot 11 and 165 pounds he will get bigger and stronger. Very good ball player, very nice swing, he could end up being a special player.
