2005 National Showcase
Max Sapp is a 2006 left handed hitting catcher from Bishop Moore HS in Windemere, FL, with a mature and strong 6'2", 210 lb. frame. Sapp was one of the stars of the showcase, especially with his power display. He hits from a big coil with a high leg lift trigger and plus bat speed with serious lift in his swing. He got in a groove during batting practice and hit 4 straight bombs out of the spacious Georgia Tech park and 6 out all together. During the showcase games at Turner Field Sapp continued his power display, hitting an opposite field home run in the big league ballpark. Sapp isn't just a power hitter, he has bat head skills and could hit for a high average as well. He doesn't get fooled or off balance at the plate very often. Sapp is a solid defensive player as well. He has excellent arm strength at 81 mph and good transfers and foot quickness. His best pop time was 1.85 and he was consistently in this range. His durable build will help at the catching position. Sapp is a very high level prospect who has caught the attention of the professional scouts who know there are very few left handed power hitting catchers to be found.
