2004 Underclass National Showcase
Aaron O’Connell -- O’Connell is a very projectable 6-2, 175 sophomore right hander from Florida who might end up throwing very, very hard in the future. He’s a young 15 year old who showed us a boring fastball that topped out at 85 mph from a high ¾’s release point. O’Connell did a very good job of maintaining his velocity in the 83+ mph range and that’s impressive for a young pitcher in a showcase environment at that time of year. O’Connell’s curveball had good velocity at 70-73 mph but he tended to drop his release point a bit and the pitch sometimes ended flat. He also mixed in a couple of change ups. This is definitely a young prospect to keep close watch on over the next year or two. He is a good athlete, runs well and can hit. Aaron is a top student.
