2004 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
OF Austin Knebel: Knebel is a senior outfielder from Iowa who came on strong at the end of the Spring League, especially with the bat, and then had a nice Showcase as well. He has a trim, live athletic body and the potential to get stronger in the future. Knebel’s physical tools are very good. He ran 6.96 for us at the Showcase and showed good speed and aggressiveness on the bases. Knebel hits from a balanced approach at the plate and shows good bat speed with a level line drive swing. He showed us the ability to lengthen his finish and drive the ball up the gaps with wood as well. Knebel hit as many balls hard during the last few weeks of league play and at the Showcase as anyone. Knebel’s arm strength is solid for all three outfield positions, although he needs some work on his approach to balls on the ground. Knebel’s physical tools and his ability to hit should make him a solid college outfielder.
