LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2004 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
C/RHP Nick King: King is a senior catcher/right handed pitcher from Iowa with above average strength in his 6-3, 205 lb frame. King took a very good batting practice at the Showcase with an aggressive hard swing and even blasted a ball out of Veterans Memorial Stadium to left field. There’s no doubt that he has some power in his bat, although his game approach was a bit more tentative and contact oriented. King is a 7.16 runner, very good for his size, and moves well behind the plate. He has a long release on his throws and really doesn’t show his true arm strength behind the plate, although he did show an accurate arm. King also played some at third base, showing pretty good actions and this might even be his best position down the road. As a pitcher, King was consistently 82-84 mph from an overhand release point that generated good plane to the plate. King’s breaking ball was a 72 mph slider that had a short, fairly late break. King hasn’t signed with any college that we’ve heard but definitely has the ability to play college baseball.
