2004 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
IF Blaine Erdahl: Erdahl is a quick little junior middle infielder from Wisconsin with plenty of potential to play well at the next level. He has very good body life in addition to his 6.90 speed and with his quickness he raised havoc on the bases during the Showcase. In fact, he reached base on infield errors three times in six at bats by forcing rushed plays from infielders. Erdahl has smooth, sure hands at shortstop and will rarely make an error picking the ball up. His arm strength could use just a little improvement and he tends to play a shallow shortstop, but his throwing mechanics are solid and he should improve with age. As a hitter, Erdahl makes consistent contact with wood and the ball shows some jump off his bat. He has a notable hand hitch and jumps up on his toes when loading and calming down his approach will help him drive the ball more consistently. Overall, we like Erdahl’s physical tools and his chances for getting even better in the next few years.
