Smith is a Junior catcher with tools that can play him at nearly any position. Just 5 foot 9 and 170 pounds, Smith does not profile as a Big Leaguer but he has good enough tools and a good looking bat that will have Colleges looking seriously at him. His defensive catching ability showed well with 76 mph velocity on his throws and a 2.09 pop time. He receives with ease, has quick feet and showed mobility. His 6.83 time in the 60 is just one indicator of his speed. On the bases he showed more of it and instincts to match. For a catcher he can really move. Hitting from both sides of the plate effectively is always a good thing and Smith showed a good swing with a stride hitting approach and produced solid hits, mostly pulled down the line. His right-handed swing was slightly more level but both swings got hits. He is an athletic player with the versatility that Colleges love.
