2004 Underclass National Showcase
Stefan Schropp -- Schropp is a projectable 6-1 junior who lists himself as a primary shortstop but may have more potential on the mound in our opinion. He has good athletic actions and body control as a pitcher and showed the ability to switch his arm angle from standard ¾’s to side arm with no loss of stuff or command. Schropp is very aggressive with his 79-82 mph fastball and uses the 2 arm slots and the different movement he gets on those pitches as two distinct offerings. Schropp showed very good command low in the zone of both pitches. He’ll mix in a 70 mph curveball occasionally. Defensively, Schropp has good hands and arm strength. His overall quickness and the possibility that he’s going to get bigger and stronger profile him to third base. Schropp hits out of balanced stance and gets out on his front foot quickly at the start of his swing, which leads to much of his solid contact being to the right side of the field. Schropp has good bat speed overall and a level cut. Stefan is an outstanding student as well. Very good Ivy League type prospect.
