Steele Myers is a 2008 SS/P with a 5'11'', 180 lb. frame from Chapel Hill, NC who attends Charles E. Jordan HS. He has a strong, mature build with good strength throughout and will have to work on maintaining his looseness and flexibility as he gets older. Myers uses his strength well at the plate and has advanced hitting toos. He has a very busy set up with a htich to start his swing and can simplify his approach getting the bat started. Myers takes a very aggressive swing at the ball and generates very good bat speed. He consistently hit the ball hard and showed the ability to run on balls and hit with some power. Defensively, Myers has third base tools in the infield. His upper body stiffness comes into play in his actions, although he has some arm strength across the diamond. Myers also shows pitching prospect tools. He throws from a high 3/4's to overall hand release point with a full delivery that picks up energy and speed the closer he gets to release. His curveball is his best pitch and he throws it often. It has a consistent hard downer break at 74 mph and it's better the harder he threw it. It's a good pitch and hitters struggled to make contact. Myers started off throwing his fastball in the low 80's but loosened up by the 2nd inning and was more 84-86 mph. He was inconsistent with his fastball release point and frequently missed up, something he didn't do with his curveball. He profiles best now as a reliever who can come in with his curveball and get outs. Myers is a hard nosed competitor on the field and plays to win.
