2004 World Showcase
McBurrows is a primary left handed pitcher who many scouts have also expressed interest in as an outfielder as well. McBurrows had a strong showcase with the bat, hitting the ball hard several times in the games and running his usual sub-7.0 60. But we think his future probably lies on the mound. McBurrows has a very live arm and we’ve seen him into the 90’s at times in the past. At the World Showcase he was 86-89 mph on his fastball, averaging 87. McBurrows has a high ¾’s release point and does a nice job of getting over the ball and creating downward plane to his pitches. He also has plenty of deception and hitters act like they’re reacting to even harder stuff. McBurrows had good command of his pitches in Ft Myers. His breaking pitch is a 77-79 mph slider that has good tight spin to it and is a good compliment to his fastball. Thad has committed to Florida but with a good spring he could create some serious early draft interest.
