Thomas Hickman -- We’ve seen Hickman before but mostly as a hitter. This was our best look at this young sophomore so far as a pitcher. Hickman isn’t tall but has an athletic frame and easy balanced actions. His delivery and pitching mechanics are very smooth and he’s able to make the ball do a lot of things from this solid base. Hickman’s fastball was 82-84 mph with some running action to it. His best secondary pitch was a 64-65 mph change up that he turned over to right handed hitters and really had them flailing away. Hickman’s curveball is a quality pitch too at 67-68 mph. We still like Hickman’s bat and he uses that athletic balance and smoothness to be a high average hitter, but his ceiling may be much higher on the mound depending on how he develops. Overall, he’s a very polished baseball player who is going to be high performance either way. Thomas is a good student and a must follow.
