2004 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Tyler Loftus is a 6'2", 160 lb. catcher from Virginia Beach, Virginia, from the 2007 class with a projectable body and good present strength for his age. Behind the plate he showed a pop range from 2.12-2.45 with top velocity of 72 mph. Tyler has average transfer speed with some carry on throws, but struggled with his accuracy. He is still developing his footwork and should continue to improve as he adds consistency to his footwork. Tyler is a right handed hitter with a medium stance and an open to closed approach. He has some extra hand action in his load that causes him to be late at times, but when he gets the bat head out he shows above average bat speed and very good extension to his swing. The ball jumped well when Tyler made solid right center field contact, and he looks like the kind of hitter who is going to keep improving and developing as he matures. If Tyler ends up 6'4", 200+ lbs. in a couple of years, he could easily have MLB above average power based on what he's showing now. He's a good follow with a potentially high ceiling.
