Jacob Astor is a 2007 1B/LHP from Tiffin, Iowa, with a strong 6'0", 210 lb. frame. Astor can flat out hit. He has quick hands at the plate with a no stride approach. Astor centers the ball well with a line drive swing plane, and shows raw power. He hits the ball where it is pitched, and makes solid contact to all fields. Defensively, he has good hands with very good fielding actions for a first baseman. Astor plays the game hard, and runs the bases better than his sixty time might suggest. He had fair arm action on the mound with good arm speed. His fastball topped out at 71 mph with solid command. Astor mixed in a 61 mph curveball with a 1 to 7 break. Astor works quickly, and might be better suited to slow down his delivery so his arm can catch up to his body. He also needs to work on maintaining the same arm speed on his breaking ball as his fastball. Astor looks like a player who will always be able to hit, and give a great effort. He is also a good student.
