2005 Unsigned Seniors Showcase
Rood is a 5-10, 180 lb athlete who can play just about anywhere on the field except perhaps shortstop and centerfield. He worked out and played at a variety of positions during the showcase and we probably liked him best as a catcher. He ran 7.51 on the slow track. He showed good arm strength and versatility, throwing 84 from the outfield, 78 from the infield and 75 from behind the plate. Rood showed his quick release with a best pop time of 1.87. His infield actions were quick and balanced and he profiles well at second base. Rood also has the type of hustling attitude that works well for a utility player. At the plate, Rood has a simple approach with a contact oriented swing and good hand strength and quickness. His swing will get long when he’s trying to do too much but he shortens up well and centers on the ball. Rood had 3 hits in the 2 showcase games and looks like a top of the order type who can move the ball around the field. He is an interesting player
