Tyler Thompson is a 2016 RHP/1B with a 6-6 190 lb. frame from Knoxville, TN who attends Hardin Valley HS. Very long and lean build ,square shoulders and a high waist. Deep full arm action in back, simple turn and move to the plate, high 3/4's arm slot, gets over his front side and gets on top of the ball and downhill, limited lower half use, easy loose arm with a low effort release. Mid-80's fastball, topped out at 87 mph, was up to 91 mph in Jupiter in October, works down in the zone and gets lots of ground ball contact with his fastball, maintained velocity well. Curveball has good spin and occasional big 12/6 downer shape, shows feel for his curveball and can vary the shape and add some slider action. Rare change up. Has a feel for pitching and can work both sides of the plate. Will need to get stronger and learn to use his lower half more to take the next velocity step. Good student, signed with Austin Peay.
