2013 Caribbean Top Prospect Showcase
Miguel A. Ausua Ortiz is a 2014 LHP/OF with a 6-1 165 lb. frame from Peñuelas, PR who attends Josefa Vélez Bauzá HS. Slender young build, projects well physically. Slow paced initial delivery, accelerates to the plate hard before release, short stride out front and gets downhill over his front side well, 3/4's to mid 3/4's release slot. Fastball topped out at 84 mph, appears to throw both 2-seam and 4-seam fastballs, hard run/sink on fastball at times. Huge fade on change up at times as well. Short curveball that is between a curveball and slider, fair to good spin and some bite. Primary fastball pitcher now but has the off speed pitches to learn to mix. Good athlete, athletic actions defensively in the outfield, 7.05 runner. Long loose left handed swing at the plate, some developing bat speed. Follow closely for strength gains. Good student. Named to the Caribbean Showcase Top Prospect team.
