Matthew Johnson is a 2017 MIF/3B, OF, RHP with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Plantation, FL who attends Chaminade Madonna College Prep. Medium frame with a solid, athletic build and present strength. Ran a 7.26 sixty yard dash. Primary middle infielder, shows good first step angles while ranging to and surrounding the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling the baseball out front with developing fluidity while working through back hand. Flashed good range to each side with smooth actions while releasing on the run. Creates solid momentum through the baseball to the bag when transitioning into throws. Topped at 79 mph across the infield producing carry and accuracy to the bag. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing smooth, athletic footwork while closing to the baseball. Clean glove actions with smooth exchanges while working through transfer. Flashed good arm speed at release topping at 78 mph. Throws created on line carry to the bag with accuracy. Right handed hitter with balanced stance and leg lift trigger. Swings with intent while showing good hand quickness to contact. When on time, generated good leverage through extension producing solid jump off the barrel with carry to the outfield gaps. Also pitched using a simple side step delivery to high leg kick. Stays tall on back side at gather and utilizes lower half well while driving to the plate. Fastball has naturally cut to glove side in the mid 70's, topped at 78 mph. Consistently pounded the strike zone, challenging hitters with fastball offering. Curveball has 12/6 shape with good spin and solid depth. Consistently located curveball down in the zone producing swings and missed as well as weak contact. Good student as well.
