Justin Collins is a 2017 LHP/OF with a 5-11 180 lb. frame from Magnolia, TX who attends Magnolia HS. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present strength proportioned throughout frame, mature build. Ran a 7.30 60-yard dash. Primary lefthanded pitcher, leg lift up to equal to the belt, measured tempo to delivery throughout, work out and around front side and clears it well, lands slightly cut off with strike foot. Full arm stroke through the back side working to a three-quarters release point. Works across body at times and creates cut action to fastball down in the zone, topped out at 78 mph. Able to induce ground ball contact when down, shows a nice feel for 1-7 shaped curveball with short depth at 66 mph. Works both sides of plate with fastball and can double up on curveball with comfort. Sound mechanics from the outfield, fields the ball out front, similar full arm action and repeats it well, works through the ball and gets to an over-the-top arm slot, comes out well. Lefthanded hitter, begins with high hand set and medium stance in the box. Short swing path through the zone with a linear plane, shows strength off the barrel, occasionally gets to front side early but creates line drive contact when on time. Can work the opposite field, contact approach and shows comfort working the middle of the field. Very good student.
