Brandon Cruz is a 2017 1B/RHP, OF with a 6-6 225 lb. frame from Hialeah, FL who attends Monsignor Edward Pace HS. Extra-large, athletic frame with broad shoulders, long limbs, and present strength throughout frame. Primary first baseman, fields the ball out front with hands that play at the ball, shorter steps coming off the bag with developing footwork, full arm action through the back, gets on top of throws and shows nice carry and strength out of the hand. Also pitched, side step moving into delivery with a high leg lift up past belt, short and compact arm action working to a three-quarters arm slot. Uses length to generate plane to fastball, topped out at 82 mph with short cut action to the glove side. Simple delivery out of stretch, short curveball with 11-5 shape down in the zone at 71 mph. Changeup shows fading life at 75 mph, has the feel to throw it often. Righthanded hitter, begins with a spread, bent knee stance in the box with a high hand set and back elbow. Pulls hands back at start of swing, full path through the zone and able to create leverage out front. Gets out front early at times, shows carry off the barrel to the pull side when on time and incorporates physical strength well. Projects with additional lower half in swing. Very good student.
