Johnny Morell is a 2016 RHP/3B with a 6-3 195 lb. frame from Temecula, CA who attends Murrieta HS. Solid athletic build, very good present strength. Simple turn and throw delivery, some energy at release, compact arm action, hides the ball well, tight 3/4's arm slot. Fastball topped at 88 mph, mostly straight, has some velocity projection and was topping out at only 83 mph last year. Good curveball spin with some 11/5 depth, also throws a twisty slider at 80 mph, will get between the breaking balls at times, threw plenty of breaking balls this outing. Two-way prospect, switch-hitter with the strength to generate bat speed and drive the ball, better present swing right handed with simple mechanics and a simple, direct swing path, gets longer and more pull/lift conscious left handed but still has good bat speed. Solid defensive actions at third base with plenty of arm strength. Good student, verbal commitment to Auburn.
