Austin Schroeder is a 2020 RHP/3B, SS with a 6-1 175 lb. frame from La Jolla, CA who attends The Bishop's. Large frame with a lean, athletic build and wiry strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a side step to balanced leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive lower half actions. Clean arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters arm slot. Showed good feel for fastball with the ability to work each edge in the mid 70's to low 80's, topped at 82 miles per hour. Curveball had 10/5 shape with good spin and solid sweep to glove side int he low 70's. Tends to slow arm speed slightly with breaking ball offering. Also worked out defensively from the infield and outfield. From the infield showing clean footwork while funneling from a deeper position. Efficient exchanges and released from a high three-quarters slot topping at 80 miles per hour. From the outfield showing deliberate footwork while closing and working through the baseball. Recoils at released from a three-quarters slot producing stiff carry to the bag at 84 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a spread, even stance and large sweeping trigger. Shifts into contact with linear lower half actions. Loose path to baseball with a slightly lifted barrel plane through extension. Utilized an aggressive approach and looked to drive the baseball to the middle of the field and pull side gap. Excellent student. Named to the 2017 California Underclass Showcase, Top Prospect List.
