Jonathan Gates is a 2018 LHP/1B with a 6-2 189 lb. frame from Brooksville, FL who attends Nature Coast Technical HS. Strong athletic build, pretty mature physically. High leg raise delivery, deliberate pace, hides ball well in back, high 3/4's arm slot, repeats his mechanics well. Steady low 90's fastball, topped out at 92 mph, has the ability to spot his fastball, gets arm side running action. Slider shows sharpness and tight spin, has feel for his slider and can use it to different quadrants effectively, will back foot right handed hitters with it. Nice firm change up with arm speed, picked up a strikeout with it. Struck out all six hitter he faced without much resistance. Good student, verbal commitment to Miami. Selected for the 2017 Perfect Game All-American Classic.
