Jake Thau is a 2019 RHP/3B/1B with a 6-5 230 lb. frame from Redondo Beach, CA who attends Redondo Union HS. Large frame with long limbs and a solid build. Shows some present strength throughout. Ran a 7.77 sixty yard dash. Primary first baseman, showed actions and uses body to square up the baseball, showed arm strength up to 79 mph. Right handed hitter with a balanced stance. Primarily used a mid-field approach with a compact path to contact. Creates some leverage through the zone through extension when working to the pull side gap. Flashed some bat speed with strength when turning the barrel to contact. Also pitched showing a simple, repeatable leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side with good balance at gather. Strides towards arm side edge of the plate and releases with slight cross body action. Carries momentum towards the plate well through finish. Fastball has heavy actions to the plate from an extended three-quarters arm slot, topped at 82 mph. Hides the baseball well creating good arm side run with slight sinking action when located down in the zone. Slider has 9/4 shape with early break and sweeping action. Good command of the zone with developing ability to spot on the edges of the plate.
