Silas Butler is a 2018 OF/RHP, 1B, 2B with a 6-2 195 lb. frame from Locus Grove, GA who attends Arabia Mountain. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength proportioned well throughout frame. Runs well, posted a 6.74 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, works through the ball and generates momentum at release, extra steps upon fielding into release, reads the ball well, getso ntop of throws and shows solid carry and present arm strength to the intended bag with a quick exchange. Also pitched, showed athleticism on mound with ability to vary arm actions and throw strikes from submarine to a higher three-quarters release and in-between. Leg lift up to belt with a full arm stroke through the back, up to 83 mph from higher slot and played well off of sinking fastballs from lower release points. Able to work down in the zone and create some sinking life to help induce ground ball contact. Flashed breaking ball at 70 mph with sweeping finish with occasional depth. Righthanded hitter, begins with an upright and slightly open stance, high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Stays short and direct to the ball with swing path, shows present bat speed and creates contact out front. Hands are very quick with swing, steady line drive contact with hard carry to the pull side off the barrel; interesting potential with the bat. Named to Fall National Showcase Top Prospect List. Good student.
