2016 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Jake Collum is a 2017 RHP/MIF with a 6-3 175 lb. frame from Cartersville, GA who attends Cass HS. Large frame with strong, athletic build and good projection remaining. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.20 seconds. Primary right-handed pitcher, arm is loose and works well, compact and repeatable delivery, lands slightly closed in stride and creates crossfire as result. Throws from three quarters arm slot with good extension out front, creates good downhill plane to the plate, fastball worked 82-85 MPH with heavy, riding life to the arm side. Maintains arm speed on changeup and generates lots of fading action, showed curveball with sweeping 10/4 shape, quality depth and sharp spin. Mixed and matched all 3 pitches and pounded the zone with all 3. Sets up to hit from tall/athletic stance with open base, coils hip inward into leg lift and times up stride well. Line drive swing plane with good strength into swing, showed good ability to jump the ball on a line with feel to go to all fields. Worked out defensively in a pair of spots. Good athleticism to both sides in the infield, moves well to the ball and surrounds with soft hands and clean funnel, shows very good arm strength across the diamond clocked up to 87 MPH. Showed well in OF as well, bends well at waist and fields well off to side, gets off clean release with carry and good arm strength back to the infield clocked up to 86 MPH. Good student, named to 2016 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase Top Prospect List.
