2005 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
John Moreland is a 2007 1B/P from Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia, with a strong 6'2'', 205 lb. frame. Defensively he has solid arm strength with clean arm action. Moreland has soft hands and picks balls well out of the dirt and stays in front. At the plate he is a left handed hitter who hits from an open stance. He takes a short stride and stays balanced through his swing with leverage at contact that helps generate raw power. Moreland has solid bat speed with a good hip turn. He tracks pitches well and has a good knowledge of the strike zone. He projects to be a middle of the order hitter who will hit with power. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with solid arm speed. Moreland has a balanced delivery, and has good control of his three pitches. His fastball topped out at 80 mph, but projects to throw harder in the future. He also mixed in a tight curveball at 69 mph with good depth. Moreland is a good two-way prospect that needs to be followed.
