Mark Pope is a 2008 RHP with a 6'2'', 193 lb. frame from Marietta, GA who attends Walton HS. He has a strong, stocky frame and looks closer to 6-0 than 6-2. Pope throws from full windup delivery with good drive to the plate and some effort flying open on release. The energy in the delivery gives some deception to the hitter and doesn't seem to effect Pope's command or consistency. Pope's release point is extended low 3/4's and he gets excellent heavy life on a mid to upper 80's fastball that touched 90 mph. He'll get tons of ground ball outs at all levels with his fastball. His breaking ball is a sweeping curveball in the lower 70's but he profiles as the type who will learn a slider at some time in the future. Pope didn't show a change up but it would be a good pitch for him. Pope's a good athlete who fields his position well, important for a sinker baller, and can swing the bat a bit. He should have immediate success at the college level with his style and command.
