2018 Pitcher/Catcher Showcase
Tyler Oberbroeckling is a 2019 C/3B with a 6-1 170 lb. frame from Marion, IA who attends Linn-Mar HS. Lean and athletic build with room to fill out and add strength. Primary catcher starting in a low side set stance with good hip flexion. Has a strong arm, releasing from a compact three-quarters arm slot. Stays low into throws gaining good ground with a quick step out while utilizing a clean, smooth exchange. Has a short arm circle in back. Throws have some tail but keeps good carry to the bag. Best workout velocity was 78 miles per hour and a best workout pop time at 1.97. Right handed hitter with a spread and even stance. Simple leg lift trigger at load. Gets good, aggressive drive off the back foot. Rotational lower half with solid hip torque. Loose path to contact with a naturally lifted swing plane. Has good drive off the barrel when meeting the ball out front. Can also control the barrel well able to make solid contact often. Tries to keep the up the middle and to the pull side. Good balance throughout swing. Very good student as well. Named to the 2018 Pitcher/Catcher Showcase Top Prospect list.
