2015 Caribbean Top Prospect Showcase
Derrick Lugo is a 2016 3B/SS with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Santa Isabel, PR who attends Academia Santa Maria Reina. Medium, athletic frame with present strength on frame and room to continue to fill out. Ran a 7.22 60-yard dash. Primary middle infielder, moves well on feet and works through backhand well, compact arm action with a lower slot at release, quick transfer and shows arm strength, smooth and balanced when charging in. Righthanded hitter, starts with a wide base and a high hand and back elbow set. Upper body swing, small stride of lower half into contact with some hand movement in load. Line drive swing plane, occasionally opens front side early, looks to elevate off the barrel and showed lift when out front, comes off the barrel well when squared. Excellent student.
