Jonathan Young is a 2016 SS/RHP, 2B with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Batavia, IL who attends Marmion Academy. Medium frame with a lean build. Slightly open stance and stays open on stride. Matches plane well at contact and shows some present bat speed. Extendes through contact and shows repeatable swing mechanics allowing for an all fields approach. Swing projects with continued strength and fluidity. Shows a lower 3/4 arm slot with a tendency to throw uphill from the infield. Footwork is fluid around baseball with harder glove actions. Shows some range to both sides. Fast arm with a lot of projection on the mound. Long arm swing with active arms and legs that causes deception in delivery. Pounds the zone with fastball ranging from 82-85 mph, topping at 86 mph. Shows varying break to slider, shows most snap at higher end of velo and shows more tilt with lower velo. Slider topped at 77 mph. Flashes a changeup at 79 mph as a third pitch with fading action. Mixes and matches all 3 pitches with good control anf from same keyhole and arm speed. Shows understanding of how to pitch. Higher ceiling as a pitcher. Good student as well.
