Danny Castaneda is a 2019 RHP/1B, 3B with a 5-9 182 lb. frame from Bergenfield, NJ who attends Bergenfield. Broad shoulders with a solid build and present strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple rock step to high leg lift delivery. Stays tall and stacks weight on back side at gather. Worked to the plate with drop and drive actions while landing in line with the plate. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball showed good running life out of hand in the mid to upper 70's, topped at 78 miles per hour. Displayed good feel for fastball with the ability to work to each edge of the plate. Curveball had 11/5 shape with tight spin and good depth. Displayed best depth when maintaining arm speed through extension. Mixed pitches well and consistently induced weak contact. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing developing range while working to and through the baseball. Stays squared with baseball while funneling out front and worked through exchange with loose actions. Released from a lower three-quarters arm slot generating accurate carry to the bag at 75 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance and simple front side trigger. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Employed a naturally lifted swing plane and looked to aggressively turn top hand to baseball. Produced loud contact to the middle of the field and pull side gap when on time and squared. Good student as well.
