Staine is a 6-2, 190 lb right handed pitcher from Houston with strong hips and thighs. He has an unorthodox delivery with lots of moving parts and a short, compact arm action. The whole package is probably pretty deceptive to the hitter. Staine's primary pitch was a 83-85 mph fastball that was consistently down in the strike zone and looked like it had hard sinking life to it. Staine also threw a 69-72 mph curveball that was loose. His arm action might be better suited to throw a slider in the classic sinker/slider mode. We didn't see a change up but this would be a valuable addition to Staine's arsenal. Staine has very good arm strength and command already and has lots of areas that he can add to his skills. He might be a very nice sleeper for the right college program. Staine is also an incredible student off the field and should be recruited by some of the top academic schools in the country.
