2005 South Top Prospect Showcase
Buford is a 6-2, 180 lb outfielder from Texas with good present tools and a projectable body that could get bigger and stronger in the future. He's a very good defensive outfielder right now and can play centerfield at a very high level. He runs the 60 in 6.97 and showed that he had plus range in centerfield. Buford threw 84 mph during outfield drills and got rid of the ball very quickly with sound footwork and fundamentals. Buford has the potential to develop as a hitter and probably does a solid job with the metal bat against high school level pitching. Right now he has a very long wrap in back on his swing and gets the bat started consistently late. You can see he has hand quickness and strength by the way he can take the ball deep in the zone in BP and drive it hard to right field, but virtually 100% of his BP and game contacts were strictly to the right side because of his late, long start. With his quickness, athletic ability and projection, Buford could really improve at the plate with some adjustments. Buford is also a good student. Good follow who could blossom under the right instruction.
