Jon Dicus is a 6-0, 165 lb junior right handed pitcher from Illinois with a slender, projectable body. He has a loose, free arm, especially out front, and it's easy to see him picking up velocity in the future. He has a complicated delivery with lots of stops and check points along the way. This gives some deception to the hitter and works for Dicus because he is a very good natural athlete who is able to coordinate and balance his delivery well. He has a long, extended arm action in back. Dicus's fastball was in the 82-85 mph range that had good tailing action when it was down. Dicus tends to pitch to the outside half of the plate with his fastball, especially to left handed hitters. His off speed pitch was a 68-70 mph curveball that he's still working on getting the release point more consistent. Dicus also showed some ability as a position player. He has good balance defensively and showed his skills well at third base. Dicus is a switch hitter with developing bat speed from both sides of the plate. His overall athletic ability and looseness make him an interesting follow for 2007. He is also a very good student.
