Joseph Akers is a 2017 RHP/1B with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Holly Lake Ranch, TX who attends Hawkins HS. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and a strong, mature build throughout. Ran a 7.74 60-yard dash. Primary righthanded pitcher, begins delivery with leg lift equal to belt, gets tall on back side and remains balanced. Short and compact arm action in back, three-quarters arm slot with late acceleration at release. Lands slightly open, generates running life to fastball that top at 81 mph, holds velocity out of the stretch, upright finish. Curveball comes out same slot, slows arm action slightly, short depth with 11-5 shape, slider shows tighter rotation at 71 mph. Similar short and quick arm action from first base, shows strength and carry across diamond with accuracy. Righthanded hitter, starts with a narrow, open stance and high hand set. Upper body swing with long path to the ball, front shoulder opens early, creates contact to all fields. Good student.
