2006 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Jordan Wideman is a 2007 C/3B with a 5'11'', 205 lb. frame from Mississauga ON, who attends Streetsville SS. He has a strong, mature build and compact actions. Wideman came directly to the showcase from Cuba, where he was playing with the Canadian National Junior Team. He's a polished player with advanced skills, especially on defense. Wideman has quick actions behind the plate and receives the ball smoothly. He threw 78 mph and had a best workout pop time of 1.92 and a best game throw of 2.04. His throws are very accurate and consistent. Wideman hits from a closed, balanced stance and has a short one piece swing. His bat stays on plane with the ball a long time and he squares up on the ball consistently. Wideman picked up a couple of hits when he didn't make solid contact but he was on the ball and muscled it into the outfield. He'll pick up some gap to gap extra base hits with his strength. Although Wideman is just a fair runner, he showed plus baserunning instincts and took a couple of extra bases that less experienced and aware players might not have. Wideman is a solid catching prospect who has performed at a high level. He is also a good student.
