2006 National Showcase
Aaron Brewer is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Red Oak HS, residing in Red Oak, TX. Brewer has a long, lanky build on his thin 6'7" 190 lb. frame. Clearly from his listed vitals Brewer has some physical gains to make before he is anywhere near a finished product. He showed enough raw ability, combined with a feel for pitching to be ranked #82 among PG National Top 85 position players, though that ranking was mostly due to his projectability. Brewer pitches from an over the top slot and has good arm speed, though with some effort. There are a lot of sharp angles in his delivery, a lot of elbows and knees. The word "gangly" might come to mind when watching Brewer unfold on the mound, but stay with him. He actually did a nice job of repeating his delivery and will only get better as he gains strength and gets totally comfortable with is still developing body. Brewer showed a fastball up to 89 and sat in the 85-88 mph range. He gets his arm to pretty good extension, giving his fastball some length into the hitting zone, basically meaning that his fastball holds its line and doesn't drop off much out of his hand into the zone. Brewer's curveball was a spinning 68-71 mph offering that has a chance to be a quality pitch. He may need to hold it a bit tighter to put some more bite on that pitch. He showed good pitchability and mixed his two pitches quite well. As a projection righty, Brewer looks like a project at the D1 level, or a JC type arm that should be much more developed in about two years.
