2017 Pitcher/Catcher Showcase
Tony Comellas is a 2018 C/RHP, 3B with a 6-2 180 lb. frame from Coralville, IA who attends Iowa City West. Large frame with a lean, athletic build and wiry strength. Frame projects to support additional size with strength. Primary catcher with a side set stance while setting up to receive. Gains ground to the bag with smooth paced footwork. Clean, loose glove to hand exchanges while working through transition. Released from a low three-quarters arm slot that generated some on line carry to the bag topping at 77 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a crouched, spread slightly open stance and high back elbow set. Lower half works to contact with linear actions producing good shift into contact. Hands launch on a loose, extended path through the zone on a naturally lifted plane through extension. Stays balanced throughout swing and flashed good bat speed and strength that created good barrel whip and jump off the bat to all fields. Good student. Named to the 2017 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase Top Prospect List.
