Sam Crone is a 2019 OF/RHP with a 5-9 170 lb. frame from Mooresville, NC who attends Lake Norman. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a young, projectable build with present strength and additional room to fill moving forward. Ran a 7.56 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, shows actions on feet moving towards the ball and works through it well, gets into a nice fielding position with a good first step, very short and compact arm action, gets under throws at times, arm strength will continue to develop with additional lower half incorporated into release. Also pitched, deliberate tempo to delivery, gets tall on backside with a leg lift slightly up past belt. Short stride down the mound, works from a three-quarters release point, gets on top of fastball well and shows some sink down in the zone, pitches to contact and throws easy. Repeats delivery, showed a short 11-5 curveball at 63 mph, changeup flashed short fade down in the zone. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and high back elbow and slightly open stance in the box. Uses a toe tap trigger at start of swing, coils well moving into contact and shows a nice shift through hips. Quick hands with a short and compact swing path to the ball, shows nice bat speed through the zone, occasionally gets to front side early but stays through the ball, pull side approach and showed ability to execute. Good student.
