Evan Paulus is a 2019 RHP/2B, 3B with a 5-10 230 lb. frame from Rudd, IA who attends Newman Catholic. Medium frame with broad shoulders and present strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step to high leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Lands at a very closed position on front side and created crossfire at release, falls off to glove side at finish. Hides baseball well with a compact arm circle and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball created some downhill plane through the zone with run to arm side, topped at 80 miles per hour. Curveball had 11/5 shape with solid spin and late bite in the upper 60's. Aggressively attacked the strike zone and flashed the feel to mix off speed in positive and negative counts. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing clean footwork while ranging for and surrounding the baseball. Funnels the baseball front and worked through exchange well. Released from a high three-quarters slot generating accurate carry to the bag at 80 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, open stance and sweeping leg lift trigger. Shifts into contact with aggressive linear actions. Direct hand path with a naturally leveraged barrel plane. Swung with extreme intent and look to lift the baseball to the pull side gap. Ball jumped off the barrel very well when squared creating hard, loud contact with carry. Good student. Named to the 2017 Midwest Underclass Showcase, Top Prospect List.
