Andrew Hegland is a 2017 3B/RHP, 1B with a 6-0 190 lb. frame from Davenport, IA who attends Davenport. Medium frame with a solid build and present strength. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.81 sixty yard dash. Primary third baseman, shows fundamental footwork while working to and surrounding the baseball. Smooth, clean glove actions while funneling the baseball out front and working through transfer. Shows some range to each side with clean, fluid action when working through back hand. Topped at 75 mph across the infield from a three-quarters arm slot. Throw produced some on line carry to the bag with accuracy. Right handed hitter with a wide spread, open stance and leg lift trigger. Loses some ground when striding with front side and launches to contact with rotational lower half actions. Hands launch on a compact path generating a level, line drive plane through extension. Primarily used a mid-field approach, but flashed the barrels skills to work to all fields as well. Showed a leveraged plane when attacking baseball out front and working to the pull side gap. Also pitched showing a simple side step to leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gathers and drives to the plate with good on line direction. Compact arm cirlce back at separation and releases from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball had occasional downhill plane with cutting action to the plate in the mid to upper 70's, topped at 77 mph. Curveball had 12/6 shape with some spin and early break to the plate. Mixed pitches well and effectively filled the zone. Very good student as well.
