Blake Berns is a 2018 1B/OF with a 6-3 210 lb. frame from North Liberty, IA who attends Regina Catholic. Large frame with long limbs and strength. Frame projects for additional strength. Primary first baseman with aggressive footwork while closing to and surrounding the baseball. Stays low while funneling the baseball out front and worked through exchange with developing fluidity. Long arm circle at separation and released from a three-quarters slot, topped at 75 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a crouched, even stance and high back elbow set. Stays on back side and works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose, extended path to baseball with a slightly lifted barrel plane through extension. Showed developing feel for the barrel with present bat speed through the zone. When on time and squared, ball jumped off the barrel producing good carry to the pull side gap. Good student as well.
