Matthew Shaw is a 2020 SS/2B, OF with a 5-10 180 lb. frame from Brimfield, MA who attends Worcester Academy. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present physical strength proportioned well throughout frame. Strong runner, posted a 6.80 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, athleticism plays in actions and shows quickness to footwork, fields the ball out front and shows comfort working through the backhand, works to a higher slot on throws and shows the ability to drop slot on throws, carry on throws across. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow with an even stance in the box. Swings with intent and looks to impact the ball at point of contact, keeps hands inside the baseball and projects to unlock additional strength with extension out front. Shows quickness to hands, occasionally gets to front side early with weight shift, can work to the opposite field and shows comfort pulling the ball. Very good student. Named to the Sunshine Northeast Top Prospect List. Verbal commitment to Maryland.
