Sam Betz is a 2022 SS/2B with a 5-10 155 lb. frame from Fairview, TX who attends John Paul II. Sam is an emerging athlete and player who has as his base a sound fundamental ability that will help grow his game. His speed alone, should help him as he continues to add strength and gain experience. In addition to his obvious athleticism, Sam is also a high achiever in the classroom. He ran an elite time of 6.86 in the 60 yard dash. A primary middle infielder, Sam has all the tools to continue his assent up the baseball ladder. He uses his ultra quick feet to his advantage. He positions with confidence. His soft hands allow his glove to play well. He has a certain flow and rhythm to his defensive game which allows his 81 mph throws to trigger quickly. His tosses across the diamond show sound carry and accuracy. Solid approach that will serve him well moving forward. Now it's just reps and experience at a higher level. At the plate, Sam is a "contact-first" guy who appears to want to get his barrel on plane and to the front of the plate quickly. His operation is more upper body centric and his swing plane is more oriented to the middle of the diamond and the opposite field. He has a true inside-out path. He is very consistent with his approach, that for now, works well for him. He will need a few adjustments moving forward, that will incorporate more of his lower body, so he can deal with advanced velocity on the inner half. Sam has the right idea. He gets his current ability level. His body language dictates that he knows that the "now" is good, but there is more work to be done. He appears to want to be the hardest worker on the diamond. His focus, and effort level, are noticeable and highly commendable.
