Gavin McGaughey is a 2018 1B/RHP, 3B with a 5-11 210 lb. frame from Mason, OH who attends Kings. McGaughey has a thick build and large frame. Hits from an open stance with a spread start. Pull approach with good strength in swing, shifts well into a swing, will get to front side a bit early at times but pretty consistently on time with a repeatable swing overall. Shows good power potential to the pull side. Defensively Primary 1B, Clean glove with good carry on throws, feet work well and has good body control on throws to 2nd base. From the OF, good accuracy with sure actions to the ball, has a quick and compact arm action, from the INF, has a quick transfer and release with good accuracy across diamond, projects as corner guy on INF, also drilled from behind plate, sets up high, receives ball well with clean transfer and release. Projected to be a first baseman. Also pitched, three pitch mix from 3/4 arm slot, modified leg lift to under belt, repeatable delivery with some late arm speed through release point, fastball showed good life and flashed arm side run. curveball has 9/5 curveball with late sweeping actions, used a knuckle ball as change up with some dancing action, had feel and command of it.
